After getting drenched in the engineering jargons and equations found some time to visit Somnath Temple. I admit my ignorance about the history of this particular temple. Still, I have something interesting for you regarding this temple.
I've been to many temples in North India and South India but never seen of this kind. Morining suprabathams, sevas, archanas, sanskrit chants .. .. none of them are new to me. Here, the culture is different. They have something called 'aarthi' which may be an equivalent to any of the morning sevas in south indian temples. Lord shiva enjoys this part of the day listening to music. Music that is entrained with energy, focus.. . drums and bells played in harmony. An energetic start in the morning ! I had a chance to notice a child whose parents were busy with 'aarthi' and darshan. This child, hardly 2 yrs old never uttered a word during the course. The sound was much above audible frequency and should be annoying for kids of that age. She started enjoying the music .. her face turns more brighter and eyes much bigger than what they were. That very sight could have burnt all the sins people carry. It was a good experience to be there at that moment. Then my thoughts drifted on to music.. dance.. mythology. . . .There were many dancers and cultures mentioned in Hindu mythology. But Shiv's thandava is unique. This very thandava makes Him 'father of dance'. This energy is realised in the music. This music energises you while retaining your peace.
What a magic! Why shouldn't we go to place like this and start the day with good momentum. Make sure you visit this temple before you leave this world. Don't miss 'arthi'.
